By default, a link to any information pages you create is added automatically to the ‘Information’ section of your store’s footer and we will explain more about this further on in this guide.
As part of the standard store, there are four Information pages already in place. They are titled ‘About Us’, ‘Delivery Information’, ‘Privacy Policy’, ‘Terms & Conditions’. If you have a look at the footer section of your store you will see the links to these pages.
Create a new Information page
- Login to your admin section
- Hover your mouse pointer over ‘Catelog’ in the top menu bar
- Click on ‘Information’ in the drop down list
Here you will see a list of all your current information pages. If you are working on a fresh install and haven’t deleted any of the sample content you will see the four pre-installed pages I mentioned a moment ago.
- To create a new page, click on the ‘Insert’ button near the top right of your screen.
There are three tabs each containing various fields of information you can complete to create a new page.
General Tab
Information Title: Enter a title for the page. This title will appear in menus (like the information menu in the footer) as well as at the top of the page when a customer is viewing it so make it meaningful and preferably not too long.
Description: OK. Here is where you create all the content that will appear on the page. Enter the content in the text entry box and use the FCKEditor (the rows of buttons at the top of the text entry box) to format the content and to insert hyperlinks, images, and videos. Hover over each button to see a pop-up title.
Data Tab
Stores: If you are administering multiple stores then they will be listed in this box. Select each store that you want this information to appear in. If you only have the one store then ‘default’ will be the only entry and will automatically be selected. Leave this untouched.
SEO Keyword: If you have enabled SEO urls, enter the name here that you want to display in the url of this page. Make it meaningful and different from any other SEO Keyword used on other pages throughout your site. If you use multiple words then separate each one with a hyphen.
Status: If you want this page to appear in your store then set this option to ‘Enabled’. If you want to remove the page from display then select ‘Disabled’. I would highly recommend disabling pages you wish to remove from display rather than deleting them. This means that if ever you change your mind and want to redisplay them you only need to come back here and chooseo ‘Enabled’. If you deleted the whole page and wanted to republish it you would have to create the entire page all over again.
Sort Order: The sort order determines in what order your information pages are displayed in menus such as the footer information menu. The page with the lowest number in its sort order will display first. The page with the highest number will display last. There is one interesting feature that we offer here … If you set an information page’s sort order to minus 1 (-1), it will not appear in any of your menus such as the information menu in the footer but it will still be accessible by directly linking to its url.
Design Tab
In your store you have the ability to place different modules on different pages in order to make those pages look … well … different. By default all pages are displayed according to the standard template but if you assign modules to different pages then on this tab you can choose one of those pages in order to display this information page in a different way.
